Spartacus, a Thracian gladiator, is believed to have lived from approximately 110 BCE to 71 BCE. He rose to prominence as the leader of the Third Servile War, a major slave uprising against the Roman Republic. According to historical records, Spartacus and his fellow gladiators, who were owned by the Roman lanista (gladiatorial school owner) Marcus Licinius Crassus, staged a rebellion in 73 BCE. The uprising quickly gained momentum, attracting thousands of slaves and disillusioned citizens who were eager to challenge the Roman Empire's authority.
