Developed by a team led by Dr. Jonathan Schaeffer at the University of Alberta, Chinook was designed to solve checkers. In 2007, the team published a paper proving that checkers is a "draw" with perfect play. That means if Chinook plays black or white without error, a human cannot win. At best, a human can force a draw.
