The play revolves around the relationships between the women, particularly the bond between M'Lynn, Shelby, and the salon's patrons. The story centers around Shelby's struggles with diabetes, her desire to live a normal life, and her relationships with her family and friends.

The women of "Steel Magnolias" are more than just characters – they're a testament to the strength, resilience, and beauty of women's lives. Through their stories, laughter, and tears, the play reminds us of the importance of female friendship and community.

This is a SAG-AFTRA dream script. Because the story is told through dialogue and reaction, actors must master the "pause." The funniest line in the play (Ouiser’s " I’m not crazy ") is only funny if the preceding beat is held. The most devastating line (" Hit Ouiser! ") only works if the physical comedy is choreographed like a ballet.
