Flashback to the 1960s. Veer is a daring Indian Air Force pilot from a fictional village in Punjab, India. While driving, he saves a bus filled with villagers from a cliff. On that bus is Zaara Hayaat Khan (Preity Zinta), a spirited Pakistani girl from a wealthy political family.

Released on November 12, 2004, Veer-Zaara is an Indian epic romantic drama directed by the legendary Yash Chopra. Produced by Yash Raj Films, the film stars some of Bollywood’s biggest icons: (as Veer Pratap Singh), Preity Zinta (as Zaara Hayaat Khan), and Rani Mukerji (as Saamiya Siddiqui).

The film relentlessly critiques the political hostility between India and Pakistan. It asks a simple question: Why should borders divide hearts? The most humane characters—the old Sikh jailer (Amitabh Bachchan), the empathetic police officer, the young Pakistani lawyer—are those who see beyond nationality.

Directed by the legendary "King of Romance" himself, Yash Chopra, in his final directorial venture, Veer-Zaara remains a gold standard for poetic storytelling, unforgettable music, and performances that pierce the heart.

Khan, the undisputed king of romance, gives a restrained, monumental performance. He moves effortlessly from the playful, charismatic pilot full of joie de vivre to the broken, white-haired old man. His eyes—filled with hope, anguish, and undying love—do most of the talking. The courtroom scene where he finally breaks his silence is a masterclass in acting.
