Before you press play on that grayscale, slightly-scratched file, a note of caution. Ikiru is not Seven Samurai . There is no sword fighting, no last-minute cavalry charge. Instead, there is a man crying alone in a hospital room. There is a scene where Watanabe tries to give his money to a novelist who simply drinks it away.
