The term Swayamvar translates to "self-choice," a ceremony where a princess would choose her husband from an assembly of kings. However, Rukmini’s Swayamvar was far from conventional. She was the princess of Vidarbha, deeply in love with Lord Krishna of Dwarka. Her brother, Rukmi, however, forcibly wanted her to marry Shishupala, the king of Chedi (and Krishna’s cousin).
