The story begins in the small town of Little Tallahassee, Oklahoma, where 10-year-old Frankie Peterson is found dead under mysterious circumstances. The investigation reveals that Frankie's body has been mutilated in a manner that suggests a ritualistic sacrifice. The police are baffled, and the town is left shaken by the gruesome discovery.
The show's use of long takes and close-ups adds to the sense of tension, drawing the viewer into the world of the characters. The score, composed by Marcelo D'orsena and Theodore Shapiro, perfectly complements the on-screen action, heightening the sense of unease and fear.
Once free, Nick is drawn deeper into the clan's operations, performing ruthless "hits" and participating in traditional rituals—such as yubitsume (ritual finger-shortening)—to prove his loyalty. As he rises through the ranks, he navigates a brutal turf war against the rival Seizu gang and enters a forbidden romance with Kiyoshi’s sister, Miyu (Shioli Kutsuna).
