Why not Pamela 1.0 or Pamela X? In narrative theory, the number seven is magic. In psychology (Miller’s Law), we can hold 7 (plus or minus 2) chunks of information in working memory. In storytelling, there are seven basic plots.

Richardson’s original novel was epistolary—a series of letters offering immediate, subjective, and often manipulative accounts of events. The reader was trapped inside Pamela’s consciousness, yet aware that she was writing for an audience (her parents, and later Mr. B). Pamela 7 would likely abandon linear letters for a digital scrapbook: WhatsApp messages, deleted tweets, LinkedIn recommendations, surveillance footage transcripts, Reddit AITA posts, and a leaked Google Doc titled “My Real Story (don’t share).” Why not Pamela 1
