Oscar Grubman (played by , later famous for X-Men and 12 Monkeys ) is a precocious 15-year-old boy who returns to Manhattan for Thanksgiving break. He is deeply infatuated with his stepmother, Eve (played by Sigourney Weaver ), an elegant, intellectual dermatologist. When his father (John Ritter) is away, Oscar tries to win Eve’s heart but ends up in a complicated, humorous, and morally ambiguous affair with Eve’s best friend, Diane ( Bebe Neuwirth ).
