Gameloft was one of the first companies to focus on creating mobile games that were on par with console games. They developed a range of titles that catered to different tastes, from action and adventure to puzzle and strategy. Their games were optimized for the 320x240 resolution, which became a standard for many Java-enabled devices.
Gameloft’s 320×240 Java games were the – taking big console ideas and squeezing them into a few hundred kilobytes. They weren’t great as console replacements , but as ambitious mobile originals , they’re still fun to emulate today (via J2ME Loader or Kemulator).
Turn-based strategy, hexagonal grid, RPG elements. Surprisingly deep. UI cramped but functional. ⭐ “Proves Java wasn’t just for runners and match-3.”
