The prototype was raw and undeniably "ugly" by conventional standards. It had an asymmetrical face, odd proportions, and a zipper that seemed to hold its stuffing together. But when Horvath showed the doll to friends and colleagues, the reaction was unexpected. They didn't recoil; they wanted one.
