at the University of São Paulo. First published in the late 1990s and currently in its 6th edition (2020), it serves as a foundational resource for introductory economics courses across Brazil. Repositório da Produção USP Overview and Purpose

The Manual de Economia was born out of a desire to "Brazilianize" the teaching of economics. It aimed to present the universal laws of economics—supply, demand, elasticity, fiscal policy—through the lens of the Brazilian economy. This localization is what sets it apart. It bridges the gap between the "ivory tower" of pure theory and the gritty reality of the Brazilian market.

At 850+ pages (depending on the edition), the manual is exhaustive. It is divided into three distinct parts, guiding the student from the micro to the macro, and finally to the applied.

This section is unique to the USP manual. It does not teach theory; it teaches history and policy.
