The zenith of Punjabi political power came in the early 19th century with (1780–1839). Known as the "Sher-e-Punjab" (Lion of Punjab), he unified the various Sikh Misls (confederacies) and established a secular empire that stretched from the Khyber Pass to Kashmir and Tibet.
