In a horrific sequence midway through Episode 7, Anna corners the doppelgänger in her own nursery. The creature doesn’t attack. Instead, it whispers: "I’m the one they throw away. You’re the one they keep. Isn’t that worse?" This meta-commentary on the value of a "star" versus a "stand-in" is the sharpest writing AHS has seen in years. The doppelgänger dissolves into a puddle of amniotic fluid, finally putting an end to the lookalike mystery, but leaving Anna isolated.
