Himra employs what might be termed “asynchronous groove.” Multiple time signatures (7/8, 5/4, and 4/4) are often layered on top of one another, only to snap into unison for a single bar before falling apart again. This mimics the experience of trying to focus in an open-plan office or scrolling through a feed where tragic news, a meme, and an advertisement coexist in the same cognitive second. The “1X” of the title thus becomes a pun: it refers both to “one time” (a single, unrepeatable performance) and to the playback speed of digital media, suggesting that we are living our lives at the wrong speed.
