Industrialist J. Bruce Ismay and Lord Pirrie of the Harland & Wolff shipyard in Belfast conceived of three sister ships: the Olympic , the Titanic , and the Britannic . The Titanic would be the second to launch.
The order was given to uncover the lifeboats. But there was no public address system. Many passengers refused to leave the warm, bright ship for a tiny, open boat dangling over a dark ocean.
