Marinette's partner in crime-fighting is Cat Noir, a charming and laid-back high school student who, in his superhero form, is the cat-accompanied Cat Noir. When Marinette and Cat Noir transform into their superhero alter egos, they become Ladybug and Cat Noir, using their combined powers and skills to battle evil forces and save Paris from destruction.

The primary antagonist for much of the series is (later revealed to be Adrien’s father, Gabriel Agreste). He uses the Butterfly Miraculous to create Akumas —magical butterflies that transform ordinary citizens into supervillains when they experience negative emotions like anger or sadness. His ultimate goal is to steal Ladybug’s earrings and Cat Noir’s ring to make a "Ultimate Wish" that could reshape reality, usually to bring back his late wife, Emilie.
