This paper demonstrates that zero-byte files on Android are frequently recoverable using forensic imaging and file system–aware techniques. Standard file managers mislead users by reporting 0 bytes, but the underlying storage may retain substantial data. We recommend that digital forensic protocols always include zero-byte file analysis and that Android developers expose clearer APIs for block-level metadata inspection.
