First, you had Michael Jordan. Coming off his first retirement from the Chicago Bulls to pursue a (disastrous) baseball career, Jordan was the most famous living human on the planet. His mystique was untouchable. Second, you had Looney Tunes , which had experienced a renaissance thanks to the 1988 film Who Framed Roger Rabbit , proving that cartoons and live actors could convincingly share oxygen.
In 2021, a sequel to Space Jam, titled Space Jam: A New Legacy, was released. The film, which starred LeBron James and his Los Angeles Lakers teammate Anthony Davis, brought the Looney Tunes and NBA together once again. While the sequel received mixed reviews, it was a commercial success, grossing over $162 million worldwide. Space Jam
