Look at the top bar. There is a drop-down menu that likely says "Layout." Click it and select "2D Animation." Poof. The cube vanishes. The 3D grid disappears. You are now looking at a grey canvas, a texture-brush toolbar on the left, and a dark timeline at the bottom.
