Jackson was famous for "vocal stacking" (recording the same line 10-20 times and layering them). On Invincible , this is taken to an extreme. In FLAC format, you can isolate the double-tracking on "Butterflies." One layer is breathy and soft; another is sharp and percussive; a third floats in the right channel. On compressed formats, these layers collapse into a muddy center image. Lossless FLAC maintains the 3D holographic spread of Jackson’s voice.
