A Hora Da Estrela -

At its surface, the plot is painfully simple. It follows Macabéa, a poor, orphaned typist from the impoverished Northeast of Brazil who has migrated to the chaotic sprawl of Rio de Janeiro. She is ugly, malnourished, and hopelessly naive. She drinks Coca-Cola, listens to the radio, and has a boyfriend named Olímpico who leaves her for her more glamorous coworker, Glória. She consults a fortune teller named Madame Carlota who, in a moment of fraudulent kindness, prophesies a future of wealth and a handsome foreigner. As Macabéa leaves the session, giddy with the first taste of hope she has ever known, she steps into the street and is struck by a speeding yellow Mercedes. She dies, vomiting blood in the gutter, thinking of the foreigner she will never meet. Ler Clarice Lispector é um exercício de introspecção
