Set in the village of Akolner, the story follows (played by Somnath Awghade), a young boy from a "lower caste" family who falls in love with Shalu , a girl from an upper-caste family.
Jabya is in love. He has a crush on a beautiful upper-caste girl named Shalu. Like any adolescent boy, Jabya tries to impress her. He draws a portrait of her in the dust, tries to mimic the style of "city boys," and dreams of a life beyond his inherited drudgery.
Following the release, the concluding moments of Fandry became a rallying cry for Dalit students across the state. The image of Jabya, covered in mud and blood, screaming "Bhima Koregaon" (a reference to a historic battle and a symbol of Dalit pride) transformed the film from art into activism.
