Adobe Illustrator Error Code 4 Page
If you are saving directly to a synced cloud folder, the sync client may lock the file while uploading. Illustrator requires exclusive access to the file while saving. If the sync client interferes, Error Code 4 appears.
To test if your security software is the cause:
Use the Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to remove corrupted installation records if standard uninstalling fails.
If the error persists, the application installation may be corrupted.
In simpler terms, Illustrator is trying to read, write, or save a file, but your operating system (Windows or macOS) has locked that file. Alternatively, a plugin or preference file is corrupted, causing Illustrator to stall when trying to read its own configuration data.
