Version 1 used an older, slower, but more compatible "VM software" approach. It did not require hardware-accelerated virtualization. This is why it ran on old Pentium 4 and Atom CPUs that lack VT-x support. However, the trade-off was 30-40% lower performance compared to modern versions.
