This study evaluated the effectiveness of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) films (UV-stabilized and reflective silver films) compared to standard agricultural nets in preventing pest infestation. Field trials conducted over two growing seasons showed that silver reflective film mulches reduced initial adult landing by 62% compared to bare soil. Furthermore, covering tunnels with a 50-micron anti-insect film (mesh equivalent <0.4 mm) provided complete physical exclusion of adult moths. The combination of silver film mulch + tunnel cover reduced fruit damage to 3% vs. 48% in the control. These findings suggest that specialized films are a viable physical barrier for integrated pest management (IPM) of T. absoluta , reducing reliance on chemical insecticides.
