The film follows a young woman, Ruya (pronounced "Roo-yah"), who is engaged to be married. Shortly before her wedding, she begins exhibiting disturbing behavior—speaking in unknown languages, self-mutilation, and an unnatural aversion to religious texts. Her family calls in a psychiatrist, but when medical science fails, they turn to a Hodja (a traditional Islamic exorcist).
