The open world is divided into seven distinct regions (bayou, open ocean, resort, etc.). Each region has a "Grotto"—an underwater cave that serves as your safe house and fast-travel point. Unlocking grottos and collecting landmarks is the game’s version of "completing" the map.

Despite the flaws, Maneater was a commercial success. It sold over 1 million copies in its first year, proving that "AA" (mid-budget) games still have a massive audience. It launched on PS Plus and Xbox Game Pass, becoming a viral download during the 2020 lockdowns.
