A student is assigned an AR book, but they skimmed it, watched the movie, or read a summary online (e.g., SparkNotes or CliffsNotes). The quiz date arrives, and panic sets in. Instead of admitting they didn’t read, they seek a cheat sheet.

Some students argue that using online summaries (Wikipedia, SparkNotes, BookRags) is not cheating. "I’m still learning the plot," they say. Here is the official rule from Renaissance Learning:

Take two sticky notes. On the first, write down character names and key traits. On the second, write down major plot events in 5-7 keywords. After every chapter, review both notes. This mimics the question-answer relationship of AR quizzes.
