Every Epson inkjet printer, including the L6490, uses an internal sponge or absorbent pad to capture excess ink during cleaning cycles, printhead purging, and borderless printing. Over time, this pad fills up. Epson programs the printer to stop working after a predetermined amount of ink has been flushed—usually long before the pad is actually full.
