Female War series is a collection of seven independent episodes

It is possible that “01” refers to the first firing . Pottery is fired twice (bisque and glaze). Perhaps “01” is the first fire—the kiln cycle that hardens the clay but leaves it porous, unfinished, waiting for the final, sealing fire. In the context of “Female War,” this suggests a state of permanent anticipation. The war is not over; the final glaze (of healing, of forgetting) has not yet been applied.

We spoke with several of the artists involved in the "Female War I Am Pottery 01 -2015-" collective to get their thoughts on the movement and their work.

And in that act of building, there is defiance. The potter’s hands are the first line of defense. Even when the vessel shatters, the shards remain—sharp, archaeological, and unyielding. I am the thing that breaks, and the thing that cuts. I am the 01. I am the beginning.
