Like any computer, these devices have a boot sequence. Normally, the device boots from its internal NAND flash memory into the operating system. However, when the bootloader (often usbloader or isoload ) is corrupted, or when the primary firmware partition is damaged, the device cannot initialize its standard USB networking drivers. Instead, it falls back to a very basic state, often presenting itself to a computer as a generic device with a specific Vendor ID (VID) and Product ID (PID).
