The inaugural SLAM DUNK contest took place on January 24, 1986, at the Alexandria Veterans Memorial Arena in Alexandria, Louisiana. The first contest featured a talented lineup of players, including future Hall of Famers like Julius Erving, Dominique Wilkins, and Spud Webb.
