Born in Japan in 1926, Michio Kushi studied at the University of Tokyo and later moved to the United States, where he became the leading exponent of macrobiotics in the West. He founded the Kushi Institute in Boston and authored over 30 books, including The Cancer Prevention Diet (first published in 1983) and The Macrobiotic Way .
