Older simulators often relied on 2D instrument panels. A modern almost exclusively features a fully 3D "native" Virtual Cockpit (VC). This allows the pilot to look around the cabin with six degrees of freedom, interacting with switches, knobs, and levers using the mouse. A "Mod.rar" file often contains the high-resolution textures required to make the worn leather seats and scratched windscreens look photorealistic.
