"The syllogism is a statement composed of two premises (muqaddimatayn) that necessitate a third statement (al-natijat) by itself, not accidentally. The middle term (al-hadd al-awsat) is the cause of the connection. If the middle term is the subject of the major premise and the predicate of the minor, the figure is the first.
