The sequence transforms from gross-out realism into a surreal, watery dreamscape. It is a visual representation of the addict’s logic: the drug is the only salvation, even if it requires diving through excrement to find it. Later, the death of the baby, Dawn, serves as the film’s crushing emotional anchor. The scene is silent, devastating, and permanently scarring.
