Jackie Chan City Hunter
When Wong Jing, the prolific and often provocative Hong Kong director, decided to adapt City Hunter , the casting of Jackie seemed incongruous. Chan was not the lecherous Ryo Saeba of the manga. However, this friction is exactly what makes the film fascinating. Chan pivots the character. He plays Ryo not as a sleazy predator, but as a lovestruck, goofy man-child. He leans into the comedy, allowing the supporting cast to handle the grit while he handles the pratfalls.
