The PS Vita launched just as the iPhone 4S and Android devices began dominating casual gaming. Why pay $250 for a Vita and $40 for a game when you could play Angry Birds for free on the phone you already owned? Sony tried to compete by adding 3G functionality via AT&T, but it was slow, expensive, and pointless.
