On Christmas Eve, a young boy who has begun to doubt Santa Claus hears the rumble of a massive train outside his window. It’s the Polar Express, bound for the North Pole. He boards it along with other children—a know-it-all boy, a lonely girl, and a skeptical kid. During the journey, they face runaway train cars, a ticket that vanishes, icy slopes, and a hobo ghost who rides atop the train. At the North Pole, they witness millions of elves preparing for Christmas. The boy is chosen to receive the first gift of Christmas: a silver bell from Santa’s sleigh. He loses it through a hole in his pocket, but on Christmas morning he finds it under the tree—a bell that only those who truly believe can hear ring.
