John Explains What's New in the Current Titles

With years of experience across schools, community colleges, and universities, my primary goal has always been to offer the best-in-class material to my colleagues and students. In a rapidly changing world, it’s crucial that textbooks evolve as well. I believe that timely updates to book editions are essential to ensure relevance and accuracy, reflecting new knowledge.

Welcome to the John Macionis website, which encourages us to see the path to change. Perhaps you are a college or university teacher, perhaps you are a student, but almost certainly you are a person concerned about the state of our world.
The goal of all our publishing has always been quality without compromise. To achieve this objective, I am personally involved in all aspects of developing our texts. Beyond doing all the writing, I work on design and production, which includes the selection of all images.

Lifestyle and entertainment are no longer just about fashion and celebrity; they increasingly focus on the and mental health. Modern documentaries and social commentary frequently use shocking or jumbled terminology to highlight the chaotic nature of recovering from toxic relationships.

The phrase "Gives Head" is an explicit slang term. When combined with "Mop Head" in a "lifestyle and entertainment" search, it typically points toward:

Characterized by heavy bangs and textured layers, often associated with the 1960s British Invasion (The Beatles) or the "indie sleaze" revival of the early 2010s.

Beyond the humor and creativity, there's a deeper conversation to be had about consumerism, waste, and the human need for expression. The mop head, an object usually destined for the landfill, has become a symbol of resistance against the throwaway culture.

In a world that often seems too serious, it's not uncommon to find humor and creativity in the most mundane of tasks. Cleaning, for many, is a chore that ranks high on the list of not-so-fun activities. However, what if we were to tell you that a simple mop head could give you a new perspective on life, literally and figuratively? Welcome to the story of how a mop head, yes, you read that right, a mop head, became an unlikely symbol of self-care, creativity, and a dash of lifestyle and entertainment.

Some Tunes: A Gift to You

One of my favorite pastimes is music, playing as well as listening. Some years back, I spent time in a local recording studio performing oldies tunes that have stayed with me over the years. The link below will take you to the music page of this site. There, you will find one of the CDs from that time, featuring nineteen of my favorite “covers.” Grab your headphones! I hope you enjoy listening to these songs.

Video Lecture on Economic Inequality

Here is a forty minute video lecture that examines income inequality beginning with my own Kenyon campus and then investigates broader patterns of inequality in diverse work settings, including education, medicine, and the world of finance.
