Sam and Dean find a magical pearl that can grant one wish. Dean wishes that his family had never been touched by tragedy — specifically, that his father John Winchester had never died. The pearl brings John Winchester (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) forward in time from 2003 to the present day. John is confused but quickly learns about everything that has happened to his sons since his death (including the Apocalypse, angels, demons, etc.). The episode becomes an emotional reunion, with John finally seeing the men his boys have become. However, the unnatural wish begins to unravel time itself, forcing the family to make a heartbreaking decision: send John back to his own time, with the knowledge that he will still die in the same way, but now with the comfort of knowing his sons will be okay.
